Community Fundraisers Come Together to Look at Future
Galway Volunteer Centre is inviting all community fundraisers in Galway to an online networking event on Wednesday November 25th, to identify ways of ensuring that community groups and charities are able to continue their activities in 2021.
A recent survey of over 180 community organisations has shown that at least 70% of organisations in Galway are uncertain about their ability to fund activities in 2021. The survey has also shown that over half of the groups have cancelled fundraising events or campaigns, and many have also seen a dramatic drop in income.
‘These are very worrying results that show that many groups who provide extremely important services to our communities are not sure how they are going to continue after this terrible year’ said Donncha Foley, Manager of Galway Volunteer Centre. ‘We are holding an online forum to identify ways in which these groups can be supported in 2021 and beyond, to ensure that they can continue their vital work for us all’
The Volunteer Centre is holding an online networking meeting for fundraisers on Wednesday 25th at 11am. Anyone who plays a role in raising funds for their group, charity, or organisation can attend by by visiting https://bit.ly/fundgalway or visiting www.volunteergalway.ie and registering for the event.
Since 2006 Galway Volunteer Centre has been supporting members of the public to find suitable volunteer roles in Galway City and County through selecting roles on our daily updated list of volunteer opportunities that it advertises on behalf of non-profits and community organisations in Galway.
The GVC team meet with people to help them choose volunteer roles that match their interests and availability. ‘We are always amazed by the amount of people who come to us with a desire to do something to help others, and we provide a confidential service that gets people doing something that they like and benefits others at the same time’, said Donncha.
