Event Details

On Saturday 5th December Volunteer Ireland celebrate International Volunteer Day, we not only celebrate volunteerism in all its facets – through the 2020 IVD campaign we aim to thank volunteers for their actions and showcase the impact of volunteering during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme for 2020 is Together we can through volunteering.

Over the last months, as the COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged across the world, volunteers have been at the forefront of medical, community and societal responses. Headlines in the world’s media have paid credit to volunteers for all kinds of work including helping to provide medical care, to doing shopping to vulnerable neighbours or calling elderly people living alone.

Blue Heart
The blue heart emoji will be associated with the IVD2020 tagline and contribute to building the campaign image that conveys a positive feeling, solidarity, and compassion toward volunteers. The Blue heart emoji is one of the top 10 most popular emoticons used in Twitter messages and is based on positive sentiment. We associate ‘thanking’ and ‘caring’ with the blue heart in the IVD 2020 campaign.

International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day (IVD) is an opportunity for us all to promote volunteering, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national and international levels

Why not go to the International Volunteer Day Page on the Volunteer Ireland web site for resources right now.  We’ve got ideas and tools to help you recognise your volunteers and for information on how you can join in this year’s Social Media campaign using the hashtag #ToegtherWeCan and #IVD2020
