Community Climate Action Programme Fund – 2025
Community and voluntary groups and organisations in County Galway can use this form to express their interest in engaging in a partnership for grants worth up to €100,000 from Galway County Council under strand 1 of the Climate Action Fund – Community Climate Action Programme – Building Low Carbon Communities.
The scheme is open to organisations and community groups interested in developing projects and initiatives which relate to the challenge of addressing climate change.
Please ensure that you are fully familiar with the requirements and conditions set out in the Framework Document and Guidelines for Applicants and the terms and conditions set out below before you begin filling in this form.
There are six main sections to this form and each section must be fully completed:

- Section 3: Land Ownership and Site Access
- Section 4: State Aid Questionnaire
- Section 5: Additional Information
- Section 6: Declaration by applicants

We can only assess forms that have been fully completed. Incomplete forms will not be considered for funding. Successful applications for funding under this programme will only be paid to the applicant group/organisation’s Bank Account.
Eligibility
Who can apply
- Not for profit organisations located within Co. Galway
- Groups registered with the Public Participation Network (PPN) Or
- Groups which are members of a collective such as national sporting organisation, Tidy Towns or other
- Groups which have an articles of association or memorandum document
- Groups which hold an AGM with approved minutes available
Examples of eligible groups include local charities, sports clubs, community enterprise centres, community groups, local climate action/environmental groups, social enterprises, resident’s associations, youth clubs etc. These are examples of qualifying organisations but this is not an exclusive list.
Private individuals, commercial undertakings, schools and national community or environmental organisations are not eligible for funding from the Community Climate Action Programme.
The person registering and making the application will be the main contact from the Group/organisation for Galway County Council throughout the process.
The important qualifying criteria are:-
- Must be delivered in the community/local area and have local impact in terms of the environment, energy independence, sustainable transport shifts, protection of wild life.
- Must be not for profit.
- Must contribute to developing low carbon and environmentally sustainable communities.

Terms & Conditions
- Galway County Council will only provide funds for eligible costs to groups/organisations that are directly involved in approved projects at a community level, on a not-for-profit basis, aimed at shaping and building low carbon communities.
- You must demonstrate that you do not have the funding available to undertake the work without grant aid, or alternatively that the grant will enable you to undertake more work which your group/organisation would otherwise not be able to afford.
- The information supplied by the applicant group/organisation must be accurate and complete.
- Misinformation may lead to disqualification and/or the repayment of any grant made.
- All information provided in respect of the application for a grant will be held electronically. Galway County Council and the Department of the Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) reserve the right to publish a list of all grants awarded on its website.
- The Freedom of Information Act applies to all records held by DCEE and Galway County Council.
- The application must be signed by the Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer or responsible person of the group/organisation making the submission.
- It is the responsibility of each group/organisation to ensure that it has proper procedures and policies in place including appropriate insurance where relevant.
- Evidence of expenditure, receipts /invoices must be retained and provided to Galway County Council or their representative to support payment of funds.
- Photographic evidence of the project may also be required to facilitate draw down of grants.
- DCEE or Galway County Council may carry out unannounced site visits to verify compliance with Programme terms and conditions.
- No third party or intermediary applications will be considered.
- In order to process your application, it may be necessary for Galway County Council to collect personal data from you. - Please note that successful applicants will be required to make their group/organisation aware of best practice in relation to waste, litter, energy and water management, and make efforts to ‘Green’ their facility, events and projects over time. - If you are receiving an offer of funding for upgrading to LED Lighting the lighting and fixtures should be in compliance with the Heritage Council recommendations to reduce the impact on nocturnal animals and to save costs. - A grant agreement will be put in place between successful applicants and Galway County Council.
