Irish Hospice Foundation – Scholarships in End-of-Life & Bereavement Care
Irish Hospice Foundation offers a small number of scholarships up to the value of €3,000 each to
make Level 9 education in end-of-life and bereavement care accessible to multiple disciplines.
Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year are now open.
We are inviting applications from people who are pursuing Level 9 Post graduate study in Ireland,
furthering IHF’s 3 strategic goals which are as follows:
Conversations about Death
This scholarship is aimed at encouraging applicants who have conversations and about death and
dying in the community, and who may be involved in thinking ahead or Advanced Care Planning.
Any level 9 study/course which is relevant to this topic is eligible. Suitable applicants may come
from a range of professions including social care, healthcare, community development, homeless
services, migrant and traveller communities.
End of Life and Dying
This scholarship seeks to encourage further education, understanding and management of risk
factors at end-of-life. Any level 9 study/course which is relevant to this topic is eligible. Suitable
applicants may come from a range of professions including End-of-life coordinators, chaplains,
healthcare professionals within the sector, including healthcare assistants, nurses, medics, GPs,
allied health professionals (occupational therapists, physiotherapists), community and residential
palliative care teams.
Bereavement and Grief
This scholarship sets out to empower communities, workplaces and schools to consciously support
grief on a day-to-day basis and is aimed at those who support others in their bereavement and
grief. Suitable applicants may come from a range of professions including counsellors,
psychotherapists, psychologists, social workers, advocates and bereavement support workers.

Eligibility
Applicants must be eligible to register (or already be registered) for a named and accredited post
graduate NFQ Level 9 or 10 (or equivalent) study programme in a relevant area during the current
academic year.
Appropriate study leave must have been secured.
Applicants must normally be resident in Ireland and eligible for EU fees.
Conditions
The course of study must be successfully completed in the year for which funding was awarded.
Awardees will be asked to write or record a short account of their learning on successful
completion of the study period.
Any publications or conference outputs arising directly from the period of study should acknowledge Irish Hospice Foundation funding.
