Committee's Rep List
Margaret (Mags) Sheehan
(Headford Environment Group)
A long term environmental campaigner, I have been working on biodiversity and climate change issues with Headford Environment Group for the last eight years. During this time I engaged with the Environmental Pillar, appointed by them to serve on South West Mayo Dev Co Committee and on County Galway LCDC as Environmental Rep. Our Environment Group hosted a climate change conference in 2016, and has brought a number of other speakers and events to Headford on a variety of environmental subjects. More recently, we have concentrated largely on biodiversity, and projects include establishing our Community Orchard, pollinator work, and enhancing our Biodiversity Walkway, I am also a member of HEG offshoot, Sustainable Headford (SEC), whose main remit is around renewable energy, but also environmental issues generally. Last year I was chosen to be a Climate Ambassador, and because of Covid, I didn’t fulfil my remit. Taking this post, and using it to speak up on biodiversity and climate issues would allow me to make up for that to some extent.
(Conservation Volunteers Galway)
I have a lifelong interest in climate change and biodiversity, which I learned from my late father. I have brough several projects to fruition with Conservation Volunteers Galway including moving 3000 square metres of species-rich grassland from Ardrahan to Rinville Park, creating a wildflower area beside the Eglinton Canal, building a nesting raft for Swans in Oranmore and building a nesting raft for Common Terns in Galway City.
