(Headford Environment Group)
A long term environmental campaigner, I have been working on biodiversity and climate change issues with Headford Environment Group for the last eight years. During this time I engaged with the Environmental Pillar, appointed by them to serve on South West Mayo Dev Co Committee and on County Galway LCDC as Environmental Rep. Our Environment Group hosted a climate change conference in 2016, and has brought a number of other speakers and events to Headford on a variety of environmental subjects. More recently, we have concentrated largely on biodiversity, and projects include establishing our Community Orchard, pollinator work, and enhancing our Biodiversity Walkway, I am also a member of HEG offshoot, Sustainable Headford (SEC), whose main remit is around renewable energy, but also environmental issues generally. Last year I was chosen to be a Climate Ambassador, and because of Covid, I didn’t fulfil my remit. Taking this post, and using it to speak up on biodiversity and climate issues would allow me to make up for that to some extent.
