Mountbellew Famine Walk

Mountbellew Heritage and Tourism Network’s inaugural ‘Famine Walk’ will take place Sunday August 14th at 6pm starting in Mountbellew Square as part of National Heritage week.

Held in conjunction with Mountbellew Town Development and with funding from Galway County Heritage the ‘Famine Walk’ will take in important sites in the local area associated with local events and people during those catastrophic times 175 years ago.

The Walk will take in Ballinlass Eviction Memorial, Aghiart Graveyard, site of a mass Famine burial, before going to the town and looking at some of the stories of those who left and those who remained especially Col Thomas Kelly, Br Jerome Ryan and the Mountbellew Orphan Girls.
