Nominations for the Galway County Cathaoirleach’s Community Awards 2018 now Open

Applications are now open for The Galway County Cathaoirleach’s Community Awards. An Awards ceremony for groups and individuals who reach the final shortlist for the nine categories of awards will take place on the evening of May 31st in the Clifden Station House Hotel, hosted by current Cathaoirleach of the County, Cllr Eileen Mannion. Nominations must be in by 4pm on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018.

The award ceremony, previously known as the Mayor’s Awards, have been going for a long number of years and offer ‘a great opportunity to acknowledge the community and voluntary work happening around the County and to give something back to those dedicated volunteers’ according to Cllr Eileen Mannion. This year the awards will be jointly hosted by Galway County Council and  Galway County Public Participation Network (PPN).

The 9 categories in total comprise of community and voluntary activity such as Sport, Heritage, Social Inclusion, Environmental initiatives, Arts and Culture, Community Facilities and the Irish language. In addition the prestigious and popular Volunteer of the Year Award showcases ‘the commitment of the vast talent and voluntary efforts in our county’ says Vincent Lyons, Chairperson of the Galway County PPN.

Nominations can be accepted from the general public, community organisations and elected representatives. When nominating an individual, facility or group the nominator should ensure that the individual has been notified. Each category will be short listed to 5 nominees & a winner will be chosen on the evening of the awards. The winners will be presented at an Awards Ceremony on the evening of May 31st in the Clifden Station House, Clifden. The winners will be presented with a specially commissioned Cathaoirleach’s Community Award hand crafted by a local Galway craft producer and a prize to the value of €500.
